I was rooting through my desk at work the other day, and found a bunch more crappy little doodles, mostly spaceships (of course). As soon as I get my scanner working again, I'll post them here for your (dis)pleasure.

Wow. Putting the vanishing points waaaay too close, say right at the edge of a vertically-oriented business card, makes for a weird effect. Reminds me of some background plates I've seen in comics.

Cityscape 5 got me to thinking about doing blocks of text in the same fashion, so I sacrificed another couple of business cards to the felt pen to try it out. I think it would look cool on a t-shirt.

Yet another cityscape, rendered in gel pen and highlighter on a jumbo yellow Post-It. I like how the highlighters end up looking sort of like a watercolor wash.

OK, it's actually not a maze. It's a continuous line. In High School I drew these a lot, and once covered the entire backside of my notebook with one. I probably should have been learning to diagram a sentence, or some such nonsense.

Being a Sci-Fi fan, I end up doodling a lot of Spaceships. This funky little craft is probably for deep-space recon, or something. Hence the multitude of antennas and whatnot.

Mental Floss

I've been drawing the Mental Floss guy on and off since 1987 or so. He just makes me laugh every time. This is one of the few doodles that's not 100% freehand. I always trace a quarter to start his head. I dunno why, but he's funnier to me if his head is a perfect circle. I've drawn it freehand before, but it's never as funny to me.

I end up drawing some variation of this one every Christmas. This one is probably from December '07. I found it when I was cleaning out my drawers at work. White Out on a yellow Post-it is the key to this doodle, gives it a nice snowy feel. Season's Beatings!

In December '07 I was tasked with a project at work that required me to use 3rd-party software to trim six years of data for a Quickbooks Enterprise Edition file that was rapidly approaching 2GB in size. (Intuit says > 100MB is BAD. HAHAHAHA!) Over the course of this project, I came to despise Quickbooks, and voiced my frustrations via a doodle that I taped to my office wall. (DISCLAIMER: I'm sure Quickbooks Enterprise Edition is a fine product, and works really well for most folks. The place I work uses it for a function it was never really designed for, and I am sure this accounts for much of the suckage I had to deal with. Please don't sue me. I have friends that work at Intuit, really I do! They are all fine people who make a fine product.)

Crazy Demon

In the middle of my conference call notes, a demon sprung forth, complete with red(ish) eyes and cloven hooves. I dunno what that thing to the right of him is. It was drawn earlier in the conference call, and provided the inspiration for the demon itself. The fuzzies on its "tail" led me to start drawing the demon's feet, and he sort of grew from there.

Futuristic cityscape where the buildings of the 20th Century are dwarfed by late 21st Century mega-structures. This was done on the back of a business card with various highlighters for color.

I end up doodling lots of cityscapes for some reason. Maybe because I grew up in a small town? I dunno. Anyway, I was in the middle of this one when the pen ran out of ink. Inspiration struck, and the feeble amount of ink left in the pen became a reflection of the city in the harbor. Brilliant! Heh.
